Are you talking about Melatonin? The "banned" part of the question threw me since I didn't know of any ban in the US. It may be banned elsewhere though.
Thats my guess though: Melatonin
A relative of ours works for Amgen and knows all this stuff. We asked and she came back with thalidomide and it was banned because it caused birth defects.
She also mentioned that in 1962 the FDA required all drugs to undergo gestational testing as a result of the banning of thalidomide.
I can't believe the things I'm learning here!!
