Was the singer alive in all those decades? If not, I'd have to say Elvis.

If we are talking about someone with hits while alive in all those decades, I have no idea.

He's alive and kicking, alright.

Initially I was thinking that Ray Charles fit the bill...only he is dead I think. Yes, he died in 2004 I see.

Then I did some digging...

Al Dexter fulfills some of this. He had 14 hits across a number of decades - he died in 1984 though.

Then "Barbra Streisand has set the standard for singers for more than five decades now..."

Isn't she too young for this quiz question??? She is alive.

Marko says 'he' though. That narrows things down a bit. Thanks Marko!

:)

I also found...

"The best is yet to come as singer and recording artist Russ Lorenson honors an American music icon in his show, Benedetto/Blessed: A Tribute to the Life and Music of Tony Bennett."

Better check out Tony Bennett - did he have hits in all of those decades?

I think I'm getting closer...

You know, there are a LOT of great singers with incredible duration.

Hhmm.. Tony Bennett seems to sing the songs of other artists more than creating his own. He doesn't seem to start early enough either.

OK, James Brown was looking good - until I found an article about his death! It's been almost 10 months and I didn't know. Sheesh, I gotta get out more...

Then there's Gordon Lightfoot - he isn't early enough tho I don't think.

That is enough time spent digging. I don't think I got it - I think I need to move on now though.

Gave it a stab,

You did quite a research, Pam.

I'll do one more hint. When I say 14 hits, I mean 14 No. 1 singles in this period. He almost broke his own record with his last December's song, which made a second place in the charts.
