That would be Jackson Pollock. The movement: Abstract expressionism.

Well, that'll learn me - I thought it was Pollock though I would have flubbed on the 'abstract expressionism' part.
I think what was important about these works - you could clearly 'tell' how it was put together, unlike many other pieces of art which we see in their completed forms.
Didn't he do the American Flag in weird colors such that when you stared at it, then looked away, you would see the correct 'Flag' in the after-image?
Interesting stuff.
