Coffee plant

Coffee plant was my first thought, but I looked at:
http://www.coffeeresearch.org/Pictures/coffeeplant.jpg and decided that the leaves looked wrong.

If you are correct, I applaud you!

Whatever it is, it looks scary to me.

It's not coffee plant, but it is often used as a coffee substitute.

Chicory (sp?) is often a coffee substitue.

Initially I was thinking it was a buckeye (the state tree in Ohio, where i was born & raised) but the buckeye and the horsechestnut, which looks similar only wiht a bigger fruit/nut?, are all brown - this one is white with a brown tip... more like the confection 'buckeyes' which are made of peanut butter, confectioners sugar and butter (i think) rolled into balls - then you dip one small portion of the sphere into melted chocolate.

Sheesh, I'm making myself salivate just thinking about them!
